Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.

Due to the historic architecture of the house, Isaac Bell House is not accessible for guests with limited mobility. Tour involves standing, walking and stairs. The site is not equipped with ramps, elevators or lifts and there is no air-conditioning. Service dogs are welcome. Visitors can access the Isaac Bell House Virtual Tour of the museum from their own digital device.
Parking lot
The parking lot for Isaac Bell House is located next to the main house. There are no designated handicapped parking stalls. The distance from the parking area to the main entrance of the house is 95 feet.
Outdoor paths
There are no set paths around the Isaac Bell House landscape. The pathway to the house is grass and dirt. The central driveway is made up of paved asphalt.
Restroom
There is one small restroom located in Isaac Bell House, accessible by 2 stairs. It is not an accessible-equipped restroom.
Stairs
There are 20 stairs to get from the first floor to the mezzanine.
There are 17 stairs to get from the mezzanine to the second floor.
There are 57 stairs to get from the second floor down to the basement.
Distances
Total distance: Inside the house there are 358 feet to travel the entire tour route.
First-floor distance: On the tour route, there are 128 feet to complete the first floor. This area is made up of marble and wood floors, and the pathways are wide and easy to maneuver a wheelchair or walker through.
Second-floor distance: On the tour route, there are 230 feet to complete the second floor. This area is made up of carpet, and most pathways are easy to maneuver a wheelchair or walker through. There are some tight doorways, so those with mobility devices may be led around a different pathway to pass from one room to the next.
