On this page
We encourage visitors to review our guidelines and visitor information below in order to plan their visit in advance and make the most of their Newport Mansions experience. While we are committed to expanding broader public access at our properties, most of our historic museum sites are not equipped with accessible ramps, elevators or chair lifts, but we are pleased to offer alternative virtual experiences for eight of our historic sites.
Visitors with limited mobility can enjoy tours of the house and grounds at The Breakers, Marble House and Rosecliff, as these properties are partially accessible and have elevator service available between floors. Please note that the basement level at Rosecliff, where the Museum Store is located, is not accessible via elevator.
All our properties include moving long distances over non-paved terrain. The distance from the parking lots to the house entrances and exits is quite significant. There is limited seating throughout the museums, both indoor and outdoor.
We are happy to work with you to make your visit enjoyable and we encourage visitors with questions or requests to call ahead.
Please see the list of properties below for detailed accessibility information on each of our sites.
Mobility Devices
Personal mobility devices such as manual and electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers or rollators can be used throughout the partially accessible museums, including The Breakers, Marble House and Rosecliff. Other wheeled mobility devices such as strollers, bicycles, skateboards, in-line/roller skates or hoverboards are not permitted in the museums. We do not have wheelchairs available on site.
Service Animals
Service animals are welcome at all museum locations provided they are on a leash and under their owner’s control at all times. Pets and emotional support animals are not allowed in the museums.
At the Newport Mansions, we have specific guidelines to ensure guests with service animals are supported throughout their visit. Please note:
Information in Accessible Formats
Open captioning or transcripts are available for all exhibition media installations that feature audio. For audio that accompanies video, open captioning is provided on the screen.
Printed materials are available in the museums where tours are self-guided. You can also download in advance the Newport Mansions app which has both audio components and written transcripts to enhance your visit. Look for Wi-Fi hotspot signage in the museums.
